Regional Heart Services Expanding
March 19, 2009
Cardiologist Clarence Pearson, M.D. will be joining fellow Board-certified cardiologist Armin Foghi, M.D., in Roswell to collaborate on the growth of advanced cardiology services for southeastern New Mexico. During the next few months of transition, Dr. Pearson will continue to see patients periodically at Cardiovascular Associates of Carlsbad.
At that practice, Board-certified cardiologist Patricia Gurczak, M.D. and nurse practitioner Elizabeth Madison will continue to provide fulltime cardiac care, including the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease, and follow-up care and management of overall cardiac health. They are accepting new patients.
Carlsbad Medical Center, (CMC), together with these clinicians, continues to offer comprehensive cardiac services, including echocardiograms, cardioversions, stress tests, and management of pacemakers and automatic implanted defibrillators. Diagnostic catheterizations are performed at CMC’s cath lab. The test allows physicians to examine a patient’s blood flow to the heart and determine how well the heart is pumping, how much oxygen is in the blood and if the heart muscle is pumping efficiently.
Dr. Pearson’s transition to a base in Roswell is an initial step in the development and expansion of regional cardiovascular services for the entire southeastern part of the state. Carlsbad Medical Center and Dr. Gurczak will be important in the collaborative efforts, together with Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and Doctors Pearson and Foghi in Roswell.
“There is a great opportunity to develop a regional advanced heart program for southeastern New Mexico that brings together the efforts and experience of Dr. Pearson, Dr. Gurczak and other highly skilled physician specialists, nurses, technologists, and other cardiovascular health professionals and services in Carlsbad and Roswell,” said Janet Carbary, chief executive officer of CMC. “As the regional services grow, the range of advanced cardiac services will be strengthened, for the benefit of all patients in southeastern New Mexico.”
The comprehensive cardiac program, including Carlsbad's hospital and physician services, will offer a full range of diagnostic modalities, medical and surgical interventions, preventative care and additional medical and support services.
