Patient Services
Auxiliary/Volunteers
Our 75 CMC volunteers, Auxilians, spend countless hours to help make your experience at CMC a better one. Our dedicated volunteers assist patients and visitors from the moment they enter our hospital. Details about the CMC Auxiliary are located on the website under Volunteer Services.
Personal Items
Carlsbad Medical Center cannot be held responsible for the loss of money or other valuables kept in your room or other unsecured areas. Money, important documents or expensive jewelry should be sent home with a family member or friend. They also may be placed in the hospital safe with a request to your nurse.
Extra care is recommended for watches, eyeglasses and dentures while you are in the hospital. Avoid leaving items on food trays or wrapping in tissues that can be thrown away by mistake.
Security
Security is maintained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for patients, visitors and staff of Carlsbad Medical Canter. Should the need arise, contact the operator. If you wish to speak with the Director of Security, call 887-4390.
Smoking & Other Tobacco Products
In the interest for the health of our patients and visitors, use of any tobacco product is not permitted in the hospital. Patients in long-term hospital care should contact your attending physician about current medical unit policies.
Chaplaincy
If you would like a visit from a member of the clergy, let your nurse know. A visit can be arranged at your convenience. All chaplains at Carlsbad Medical Center are members of the Carlsbad Ministerial Alliance and volunteer their time to serve our patients.
Beverage Cart
Members of the Carlsbad Medical Center Auxiliary operate a beverage cart that makes the rounds daily to patient rooms. The cart carriers a variety of soft drinks, coffee and tea free of charge to patients and their visitors. A copy of the local newspaper is also available each morning.
Language Translators
Translators and transition equipment are available for a variety of languages. Tell your nurse if you need assistance in another language. It is important that you understand everything about your treatment and hospital services.
Lifeline Service
Going home after a serious illness or injury can be frightening if you are alone. With the Lifeline service from the Carlsbad Medical Center Auxiliary, patients can go home feeling more relaxed, secure and confident. Lifeline is a personal response system that links you to 24-hour assistance at the push of a button. It allows you move freely around your home or yard with the confidence of knowing that if you need help, Lifeline will call for you. For more information about the Lifeline program, call 887-4175.

Visitors
For the well-being of all our patients we ask that visitors observe the following rules:
- No more than two visitors at one time.
- Children under 12 are permitted on patient floors, but must check in at the nurses station before entering rooms.
- An adult must accompany children while they are in any area of the hospital.
- Visiting schedules may be obtained from the nurse, information desk or by calling the operator.
We know that family members can offer support and reassurance by spending the night with a patient. We keep a small number of cots available for guest use. Because of space limitations, only one family member may spend the night and only if the patient has a private room. All children’s rooms have a cot space available. Talk to your nurse to request this service.
