CardioPulmonary Services

CardioPulmonary Services at Carlsbad Medical Center receives both inpatients and outpatients, from newborns to senior adults.  Every procedure requires a physicians order.  Typically the physician’s office calls CMC Scheduling to initiate a procedure for a patient.  All CardioPulmonary staff are Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners who are trained in all diagnostics, therapeutics and life support.  We operate 24/7 for both routine procedures and all emergency procedures.

Neurological Services

EEGs - Brain activity studies.

8-Hour Video EEGs - Diagnoses for seizures and other abnormalities.

Complete Polysomnography - Sleep Studies with treatments for the disorders diagnosed.  New services are expected to begin this fall  by Rahul Dewan, M. D., Pecos Valley Neurology and Neurdiagnostics Clinic, office and when the CMC Outpatient Diagnostic Center opens in 2007.

Cardiac Diagnostics

Cardiac Holter Monitors - Monitor worn at least 24 hours to attempt to capture and cardiac rhythm abnormalities.

Event Monitors - Similar to Holter Monitor, but worn five to 20 days in an attempt to capture cardiac rhythm abnormalities.

Cardiac Stress Testing - Treadmill active heart stress tests to determine potential cardiac anomalies.

Cardiac Stress Testing with Radioactive Isotopes - Visualizes the size and any decreases/blocks in the cardiac blood flow.

Pulmonary Diagnostics

Arterial Blood Gases - Determines oxygen level and lung effectiveness for removing CO2 (carbon dioxide) from the blood and its associated acidity level due to pulmonary disorder and/or metabolic disorders.

Complete Pulmonary Function Testing - Includes body plethysmography to determine the exact size of the functioning lung mass; diagnose obstructive disorders (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, etc.), restrictive disorders (airway masses, kyphosis effect, etc.) and determines how well oxygen breathed from the air diffuses through the lungs into the body’s blood supply.

Therapeutic procedures to help alleviate symptoms and educate and improving the patient's lifestyle.

Advanced Cardiac and Pulmonary Care

Perform CardioPulmonary Resuscitation to help resume life functions.  Apply mechanical pulmonary life support (mechanically breathe for the patient, including supplemental oxygen support) to support life, while physician diagnoses and orders treatment to reverse the process.
