Julio Munoz, MD, FACP, Receives ACP Laureate Award

Carlsbad Medical Center is pleased to announce that the American College of Physicians, New Mexico Chapter, recently presented Dr. Julio Munoz, Internal Medicine, with the Laureate Award at their annual awards ceremony held in Albuquerque. The Laureate Award honors Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated by their example and conduct an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, or research and in service to their community, their Chapter, and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Julio C. Munoz graduated from the School of Medicine Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1976. He completed his internal medicine residency at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York.
Dr. Munoz has been involved with the American College of Physicians for almost 30 years and has been an active member of the New Mexico delegation for 17 years. He has served as Chapter President and Chairman of the Planning Committee. He has also participated as a New Mexico delegate advocating for congressional support in Washington, D.C. He has co-authored articles published in area newspapers supporting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion in New Mexico. He has been instrumental with community and staff education on various subjects including diabetes, hypertension, bioethics, hospice and end of life issues.
Dr. Munoz is board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative care. For the last 17 years, he has been a member of the Medical Staff at Carlsbad Medical Center, practicing with Pecos Valley Physician Group. He currently holds medical directorships for hospice and home health care agencies, as well as CMC’s Transitional Care Unit. He also chairs the Physician Advisory Committee that oversees patient admission to Carlsbad Medical Center.
