Carlsbad Medical Center a Cornerstone of our Community

Nick Arledge, CEO
Carlsbad Medical Center
I write today with gratitude for the skilled and compassionate physicians, nurses and other team members of Carlsbad Medical Center and Pecos Valley Physician Group who support the health and well-being of our patients. Last year, patients received medical care at more than 138,000 interactions with our hospital and clinics.
Our team delivered quality care at more than 21,000 emergency department visits, more than 2,000 inpatient admissions and more than 2,000 surgeries. We recorded over 111,000 patient visits across our physician clinics and hospital outpatient services such as labs, imaging and physical therapy. We also delivered joy to families as 400 babies were born.
Beyond clinical care, the hospital is a cornerstone of the economic health of Southeast New Mexico as a major employer and tax-payer and through resources used to strengthen the medical services available close to home. These include capital projects totaling more than $3 million to renovate the hospital’s 2nd floor Medical-Surgical-Pediatric Unit, purchase new patient beds, and add 3D mammography to improve early detection of breast cancer and further enhance the care we provide to the women in our community. Access has been enhanced with the opening of new specialty clinics and the recruitment of new providers, as well as new telemedicine options to help patients receive specialty medical care without leaving the community.
Last year, CMC provided over $22 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And $2.4 million paid in property, sales and GRT taxes helps support civic resources and services.
We are pleased to provide donations and work with local charitable and community organizations such as the Faith, Hope & Love Foundation, the United Way of Eddy County and the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad, just to name a few. Last year our employees provided community service by participating in United Way food distribution days, organizing an appreciation event for local EMS and first responders, donating holiday gifts to residents of Lakeview Christian Home, and assisting with a free community skin cancer screening in partnership with the UNM School of Dermatology and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Our payroll of more than $42.6 million ripples across the community as employees buy goods and services, making the local economy healthier as well. Enhanced benefits help our team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments, reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses, as well as tuition reimbursement. We appreciate our team and are creating pathways for their success.
Each of these initiatives and investments helps make Carlsbad healthier. We are honored to help and extremely proud of our hospital’s $78.7 million community impact in 2022.
