CMC Physicians Give Back on Doctors’ Day
4/3/2026
In celebration of National Doctors’ Day, the medical staff at Carlsbad Medical Center has once again chosen to give back to the community in a meaningful way. This year, physicians donated $6,000 to the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, in lieu of receiving traditional tokens of appreciation.
National Doctors’ Day, observed annually on March 30, recognizes physicians for their dedication, skill, and commitment to improving the health and well-being of their patients. In keeping with that spirit, CMC’s medical staff elected to extend their impact beyond the hospital walls by supporting an organization that serves vulnerable populations.
“CMC is proud to support an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of people in our community,” said Matthew Banks, CEO of Carlsbad Medical Center. “Our physicians see first-hand how important community resources are to the health and well-being of our patients. Donating to a local organization in honor of these physicians for Doctors’ Day is one small way for us to give back and recognize the vital role they play in supporting families in our area.”
The mission of the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter is to empower survivors of domestic violence and help them rebuild their lives. Offering a range of services including shelter, counseling and more, they provide a safe and supportive environment for families in need when fleeing domestic violence.
This mission aligns with Carlsbad Medical Center’s commitment to addressing social determinants of health, which, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have a major impact on people’s health, well-being and quality of life. Examples of social determinants of health include: safe housing, transportation and neighborhoods; education, job opportunities and income; access to nutritious foods and physical activity opportunities; discrimination and violence; polluted air and water; and literacy.
“Doctors’ Day is an opportunity to recognize the compassion and commitment our physicians demonstrate every day,” said Banks. “Their decision to give back to an organization like the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter reflects their deep dedication not only to their patients, but to the overall well-being of our community.”
