CMC Welcomes New Orthopedic Surgeon

Carlsbad Medical Center and Pecos Valley Physician Group are pleased to welcome Gus Barrazueta, M.D., to Carlsbad. Dr. Barrazueta is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who brings over 10 years of experience to the community. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Barrazueta completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and continued his specialty training by completing a fellowship in hand & upper extremity surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Barrazueta has unique experience treating high-level athletes, including the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Boston College and Harvard University Athletics. He has also authored numerous peer reviewed articles, published instructional videos and made multiple presentations on various orthopedic surgery-related topics.
“The recruitment of Dr. Barrazueta comes after interviewing many candidates to find the right fit for the needs of our community and the surrounding area,” said Nick Arledge, Carlsbad Medical Center CEO. “Patients would normally have to travel out of state to receive care from a surgeon with Dr. Barrazueta’s level of training. Now we will be able to accommodate many more orthopedic patients right here in Carlsbad.”
