Carlsbad Medical Center Recognized as Top Performing Rural Hospital

Carlsbad Medical Center was recently recognized by the New Mexico Department of Health and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) as a top performer in several key areas of health and patient care, including excellence in quality and clinical outcomes.
Several New Mexico Rural EMS Medical Directors were also presented awards of appreciation, including Dr. Delmar Kampe of Carlsbad Medical Center.
“We understand what matters most to patients at Carlsbad Medical Center is the quality and safety of the care they receive,” said Cathy Hibbs, CEO, Carlsbad Medical Center. “CMC is proud to be named a Top Performing Rural Hospital for the second year in a row, as it recognizes our dedication to providing quality healthcare for the people in our community and southeast New Mexico.”
According to NOSORH, approximately 62 million people – nearly one in five Americans – live in rural and frontier communities throughout the U.S. “These small towns, farming communities and frontier areas are wonderful places to live and work; they are places where neighbors know each and work together,” said NOSORH Director Teryl Eisinger. “The hospitals and providers serving these rural communities not only provide quality patient care, but they also help keep good jobs in rural America.”
Carlsbad Medical Center scored better than other acute care hospitals in the nation in such areas as heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, patient safety, readmissions and mortality, among others.
“This recognition is a testament to the way Carlsbad Medical Center’s medical staff and employees work together to care for patients and the community,” said Leonel Perez-Limonte, MD, CMC Chief of Staff. “We are proud of the level of care we are able to provide.”
The rankings were determined through Hospital Strength INDEX, an objective and comprehensive industry assessment of rural hospital performance. With the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, iVantage Health Analytics developed this data-driven program to identify excellence across a broad spectrum of indicators relevant to hospital performance and patient care.
